Our Story: From a Dream Among Friends to Europe’s Leading Online Pilot Training Academy

Peak Aviation was born in 2020 from a shared passion for excellence in aviation. Founded by Emil Avramov and Angel Abadzhiev, the academy was established as one of the first EASA Declared Training Organisations (DTO) in the Republic of Bulgaria. Our mission has always been clear: to deliver the highest quality, most modern, and flexible pilot training in Europe — especially for Private Pilot Licence (PPL(A)) and LAPL(A) theoretical knowledge.

On 02 December 2020, the Bulgarian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officially accepted our training programme, declaration, and all supporting documents. Our reference number is BG.DTO-005-45-17-40 / 15.10.2020. We proudly became the fifth registered DTO in Bulgaria under the EASA framework. Our certificate is fully recognised across all 30+ EASA member states, allowing students to sit official theory exams anywhere in Europe.

A Story Rooted in Friendship and Excellence

We are more than just instructors — we are a tight-knit team of fellow students and lifelong friends who first connected at the University of Leeds, a global Top 100 university (QS World University Rankings 2026). Emil and Angel both hold BSc degrees in Aviation Technology from Leeds. The idea for a modern, digital-first pilot training centre was born on those university campuses in England.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, instead of seeing obstacles, we saw an opportunity. We came together to create Bulgaria’s first fully distance-learning digital course for private pilots — combining world-class international materials with our own in-house content, carefully adapted to European regulations and local aviation nuances.

Our Growing Team & Professional Journey

In the early days, Velislav Kostov and Petar Bukureshtliev joined the founding team. Today, our core group of two dedicated professionals — all active pilots and passionate educators — continues to run the company. We personally maintain the online learning platform, answer every student question, and lead live virtual classroom revision sessions.

Our instructors don’t just teach theory — they live aviation every day.

This real-world experience ensures our students receive practical, up-to-date knowledge that goes far beyond the textbooks.

Trusted Leader in Aviation Training & English Proficiency

Since 2022, we have expanded our services and become the #1 online PPL theory provider in Europe and the #1 English Language Proficiency (ELP) test provider in Bulgaria. We conduct ICAO/EASA English exams for:

• Student pilots and active airline pilots
• Helicopter pilots (including HEMS Bulgaria)
• Airport staff (since 2025, in line with the new EASA requirements for Level 4 proficiency)

We have the privilege of working with major organisations such as SofConnect, Fraport, Sofia Airport, Varna Airport, and Burgas Airport, delivering both testing and targeted English training.

With full support and excellent ongoing cooperation from the Bulgarian CAA, we are now taking the next important step: transitioning to a fully Approved Training Organisation (ATO) in 2026. This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to professionalism, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
